Meeting someone in Belfast

    Hi,
I'm bidding on an item on ebay and if I win I'll have to drive to Belfast from Dublin to collect it. Now I've never drove into Belfast and I think the seller would be happy to meet me somewhere and ideally I'd like to suggest somewhere easy for me to find. I'm thinking a supermarket car park or similiar which would be on the way in, maybe on the m1 or just off it. I've no sat nav so don't want to have to drive right into the city centre and get lost.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance

Meet at the end of A1 at Sainsbury's to the left.

    Directions from the Four Courts:

    This route has tolls.

    Four Courts Press

    1. Head east on Malpas St toward Malpas Terrace
    39 m
    2. Turn left onto New St S/N81
    Continue to follow N81
    750 m
    3. Slight left onto High St
    180 m
    4. Slight right onto Upper Bridge St (signs for N4/N7)
    270 m
    5. Continue onto R108
    500 m
    6. Turn right onto Stirrup Ln
    70 m
    7. Turn left onto Beresford St
    31 m
    8. Turn right onto King St N/N1
    Continue to follow N1
    5.6 km
    9. Keep right at the fork, follow signs for M1/M50 and merge onto M50
    1.5 km
    10. Continue onto M1 (signs for Béal Feirste/Belfast)
    Partial toll road
    80.6 km
    11. Continue onto N1
    Entering United Kingdom (Northern Ireland)
    9.1 km
    12. Continue onto A1
    58 m
    13. Continue onto M1
    4.1 km
    14. Continue onto A1
    Go through 2 roundabouts
    15. At the third roundabout, turn left into the shopping complex. There's also a Sainsbury's petrol station you can use to fill up for the return journey!

If you can get to the M1 from the M50 then just continue from point 10 onwards, which is the longest single stretch you'll need to do.

Just get on the M1 and go for about 150km til you get to an interchange around Lisburn. There's a shopping development there so pick a shop to meet at. It's just outside Lisburn.

This is good advice, but if the seller doesn't want to drive the 10 miles or so from Belfast to Sprucefield (where Sainsburys is) another place could be the Yorkgate centre.

To get there, follow the directions above until the A1 meets the Northern Irish M1 (at Sprucefield) and follow it towards Belfast. This leads straight on to the A12 Westlink and then the Yorkgate centre is to your left where you could meet. There's a Harry Ramsdens so you could have fish and chips before you go back.

But if he's happy to meet you at Sprucefield then that's a better option for you.

Belfast is well signposted so chances you'll get lost are small.
Just go into the city centre and drive around, bring a map.

    This^

Driving ino Belfast via the M1 is not like driving into Dublin. The motorway delivers you practically into the city centre. You don't have miles of suburbia or Drumcondra Road -esque road.

But if you are feeling chicken and don't want to enter the city centre, there is a shopping centre "The Park Centre" at the very end of the M1, on the left, just before it becomes the Westlink. You will sport it easily as it is immediately before some high riseblocks of flats.

Oh and remember to bring your passport.

Bring a ball of twine and tie one end to the Carrickdale Hotel on the way up. It'll be handy for finding your way back (should the worst happen...)

Did you buy the item and make your way to Belfast? How did you find the trip?

What was the item? Was it as described?

    :)
