Some bands are brillant live, some average, some absolutely terrible

    What's your favourite live performance?

Probably the best band I have seen in real life

I'm not really a fan of Muse, but this performance is excellent

And this is ****ing great too, I really want to see Gogol Bordello live

Mumford and sons - huge amount of energy.

    This

Would have loved to have been there, the energy that these guys could create back then is amazing. There's not much to it really, just three guys rocking the fuck out.

I was just about to mention them. I saw them just before New Year's and it was possibly the best performance I have seen.

Best I've seen would be between Porcupine Tree, Rush, Roger Waters and Rammstein.

Saw ASIWYFA last year, really enjoyed it, but wouldn't put them on the same level as those guys.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

I have been to hundreds of gigs but these too blew me away, hard to choose between them, ironically both gigs were in Punchestown.

You really cant fault ASIWYFA live.

Sleigh Bells put on a blinding show the other month.

Mumford and Sons are always great.

Rage Against the Machine- because its the only time I have seen the Point turn into a swirling mass of sweat. (ah fond memories)

The Foo Fighters - still deliver every time

The Vacinnes - bags of energy..

    Roger Waters, Muse, AX7, Clapton

Then both Arcade Fire, Oi Polloi :P and Florence and the Machine were good but not in the same league as the aforementioned

As lame as it sounds, live music-wise, the Sawdoctors would be right up there. Always so energetic and know how to get the crowd going.

The best live performance I've seen in recent times has to be Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip at Kelly's in Galway and the Scroobius Pip's solo tour at the Roisin Dubh.

The best concerts I've been to were Basement Jaxx, Metallica and Rizwan-Muazzam Qawalli.

The best live performances I've watched on Youtube are:

This one shows my age - but the best live performance I have seen was The Stunning at the Feile a long time ago. I am not if it was my youth or if they were actually that good.

Leftfield in London in their heyday was another great performance. I saw them 2010 at Electric Picnic, again they were fantastic.

    Any specifics?

I saw them in Utrecht, The Netherlands - 1996? I liked the Pumpkins but I actually went to the gig to see the support band, Filter, who were also excellent. I've been to many gigs since, and nothing has come close to the performance of the Smashing Pumpkins that night.

My Bloody Valentines reunion gig at the Roundhouse in 2008. No youtube video can replicate how bloody loud that gig was.

Iggy Pop and the Stooges at Electric Picnic 2007, fcuking amazing it was.

    Band: Caspian
    Track: Sycamore

Changed my music taste in one night. In the forum in Waterford of all places! Greatest ending to a gig I've ever witnessed.

Have to agree. He's brilliant live.
I Was in Killarney in January 2012 to see The Bare Bones Tour.
I wish I could find some videos from that venue, but there's nothing online.
there's two videos on youtube from the same tour but different place.

Saw these supporting God is an Astronaut in 2010, was really impressed. Agree about how they ended the set!

There have been many many live performances I witnessed which blew me away, so that makes it difficult for me to pick out my one favourite performance.

So, I will mention the ones in contention for the ultimate accolade:
Suzanne Vega - The Olympia, 1987
Peter Gabriel - The Point , 1992 methinks
    R.E.M. - Marlay Park, June 2003
    Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - The 02, Dublin - June 2012
