Unraced Sires

Have never come across an unraced sire until Accordion. I'm not old enough to wonder where a national hunt sire came from when I'd never seen him on the track so I'm wondering how an unraced sire gains prominance. Who takes the horse and starts breeding him to mares etc. What other famous sires were unraced?

They're generally just well bred and start off at a minimal fee. Some nice unraced ones at the minute, two in particular I follow are Gold Well who is an unraced full brother to Montjeu, not many runners but has a very good strike rate. Another is Court Cave, unraced brother to Beat Hollow, sire of Champion Court

Keep me posted on others you find out about. I'd be very interested in keeping track of their progress.

I thought Fairy King was an unraced brother to Saddlers Wells but Wikipedia has informed me he ran once & was then retired through injury

NOBLE BIJOU an unraced Champion Sire in New Zealand.
Winner of ten champion sire titles, including five New Zealand General Sire premierships, and the only stallion to become New Zealand's champion sire and champion broodmare sire in the same season (1992-93)

All the talk of Sadlers Wells got me thinking about this fella, his unraced son Thowra. No great shakes but they still managed to charge £900st for his services
