Right i think i mite have a spaniel pup on the way in a couple of weeks. Im finishing off the run at the moment where im planning on keeping him. Would you put the pup in there straight away the first night or keep him in the utility inside for first few weeks? Also down the line say this time next year when hunting season is over,(i know i wont b hunting him this season coming) what would be the best excerise for him,can you just let him hunt for 20mins and then kennel him again. Theres not many rabbits to b shot in my area.

I'd put him straight in the run or he'll only get used to the house and start whinging when he's put out. Just make sure its nice and warm and comfortable for him and he'll be happy.Give a bit of raw hide or a bone when you put him in first.

I like to bring them in for the first few nights to ease the transition & bond with them. Put it in the run for short spells during the day to get used to it. If you have other dogs out there better still. After that out it goes.
Clean warm run & something to chew at is a good idea. Nothin hard though.
Can easily just plonk him in there first night but I don't like to as its tough on them to be on their own for the 1st time let alone in different surroundings.

What you can do is feed him in the run and he will associate it with been in a nice place that will get him use to the run.

You dead right , it very hard on a pup , the most u need to do with a new pup is bond with him depending what ya work at , bring him with ya when your going for short spins , get him use to different places , don't need to a load of work with him just bit of playing trowing a sock for him . Getting him use to coming to ya when called . And the one thing people tent to not agree with is how much to feed them .

IMO feed them as much as they will eat for the first year give them the best chance you can to get big and strong .

And best of look with the pup .

What part of country are you in if your not far from me I've a DVD made by David lissett that cover everything , I'd lend ya as long as it minded , cost me 100 pound!
