hi, i have an lg tv 32lg5000 - manafactured in october 2008.

Recently got an ariel on the roof as i wanted to get saorview in.
Bought a nordmende HD mpeg 4 saorview box. (NM8010M4)

My problem is when I use a hdmi cable to connect the saorview box to the tv, i can get a picture but no sound!

When i use a scart cable from the saorview box to the tv i can get a picture and sound. but picture quality is not as good obviously.

I have looked at all aspects of the setting on the saorview box and ensured the sound setting is PCM and not compressed.

Iv no ideas what to do next......... apart from

Has anyone got any ideas whats wrong?

    thanks
    brian

have you tried another hdmi cable?
are there any settings on the tv menu that may need adjusting?

(grasping at straws here :) )

Hi john - tried 3 different cables still no joy - also have checked and used every audio setting on the tv!

Could it be that the tv just won't support it? The sales rep in d.i.d in bray actually showed me the box working before I left the shop- ps: sound bloke to!!

Faulty socket or poorly seating connector?

Have you tried all HDMI inputs on TV. One may be labelled DVI and perhaps only support video.

If you have single HDMI in, there may be a setting to switch between modes. Should also have a separate audio in socket to use with DVI audio in if all else fails.

    LG user manual here

Details of possible firmware update/hack here too

Same problem here Brian. My TV is a 50 inch Philips from 2007 and my box is an Akura one from Aldi that i bought just last year.

Normally when you plug out the box Saorview adapter and plug it back in the sound comes back but in the long term (or even short term) that's not an ideal solution and could blow the main board in the box.

But another thing i noticed is it will always work when you have the decoder on standby, switch over to the HDMI channel, wait a few seconds as it prompts you to do so (or at least on my tv) and then turn on the box when it says no input signal. HDMI very flimsy on some tv's. We even changed the HDMI cable to ensure it is not at fault. Think it just takes older tv's time to read newer boxes id imagine.

Hope this is of help. :)
