    Hi Guys,

I hope someone can help me out/this question hasn't been asked a million times before. Basically I bought an external hard drive there the other day to back up some videos and music on and thought that I would be able to watch them on my tv via my PS3. My laptop has no problem recognising the HD but the PS3 won't pick it up. It is connected via a USB if that makes any difference. I have done the basic google search for a solution and they all seem to revolve around it being the wrong format, it is NTFS when it needs to be FAT32. Now I'm no computer wizz by any means. I was just wondering if anybody knows if this is probably the problem and what are the possible solutions to my problem.

    Thanks a mill

This is almost definitely the problem. PS3 will only recognize a FAT32 Device. I had to re-format my 1TB hard-drive before the ps3 would recognize it. The only solution is to reformat the hard drive to fat32. As always reformatting a drive will always erase all data from the drive, so make sure you back that data up!

You'll need a program to change the format. I bought an Iomega hard-drive so when i registered on the companies website I was able to download the program to change the format. Check the website of your hard-drives manufacturer to see if they offer a program to download so you can change your drive from NTFS to FAT32.

If not then ill scout around and find ya the program you need. It's an easy fix, you'll have your HD set up on your ps3 in no time, just remember to back that data up!

Hey souless use this to format it to fat32 on the laptop
    http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm

Fat32 has a maximum file size limit of 4gb so if you've hd videos in mkv and over 4gb in size you'll need to convert them to a format the ps3 will play and also split the output into >4gb chunks in order to copy them to the fat32 drive. This will do that job
