Its not original BMW so it could literally be anything.

A friend of mine in Germany brought a dog of a Manta years ago from what could only be described as a German skanger. There was a button in it, when you pushed it you heard a whirring pump noise but he couldn't work out what it was. Got out of the car and found the drive and wall of the house were covered in diesel.

Seems the button connected up to a small reservoir of diesel in the boot that was driven by a window washer pump. Seems the previous owner fitted it himself. Anyone who tailgated him or p1ssed him off driving behind him got a blast of diesel on their windscreen which is of course nigh on impossible to clean with wipers. Very dangerous though somewhat amusing, needless to say it was removed. Seems it was all the rage in Germany with Manta drivers (think our boy racers) about 20 years ago.

there is no jaames bondesque anti tailgating device
    there are no auxillaary laamps

the ejector seat button is on the right

the orange light should be a clue
i'm gonna trace the wiring later

Had a '77 528 which had similar buttons on panel under wheel. Eventually discovered they
disabled the electric windows, possibly a safety feature for children.

Sorry, cannot remember if I had a light or not, as I had the car in 1983. Just try your windows with the switch on/off to see if that's what it's for.

I was wondering if the 633 is a 78 silver one with blue half leather and cloth seats 4 speed box? on ZV plates... Looks like it might be one I sold a few years ago... the radio looks familier!

Glad to know it is still alive! Never saw it again after I sold it. It was a decent E24... very useable.
