RTE Rugby coverage

Why is it RTE have problems matching the sound and picture together. The sound is slightly ahead of the vision. Noticed this a few times when the Irish teams are away from home.
I was watching the Leinster game last night and twice in the middle of play coverage was interupted briefly as the picture went to adverts.
Poor show by Leinster and RTE.

Leinster had nothing to do with it (and I wouldn't call losing by a mere point at the end of a twenty game unbeaten run a bad show, if that's what you mean).

There was obviously a fault in RTÉ's playout system on Friday night which meant that adverts were played out briefly in the middle of the second half. Which is annoying. The same thing very embarrassingly happened on ITV HD at the same time England scored a goal a few years back.

Back the bus up a wee bit. Just a joke. Jaysus.

Same thing on RTE 2 tonight. George was ahead of the action:D

This is the norm on Saorview, alas. RTE need to get their act together, but won't.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

RTÉ (nor TV3) aren't responsible for the Champions League pictures (unless an Irish team is playing at home, which only happens in the very, very, early stages of the competition before the "Champions League" branding ever kicks in). They just take a feed from the host broadcaster.

TV3 did have to do host broadcaster duties on Europa League matches this season, but that was due to the unprecedented occurrence of Shamrock Rovers making the group stages.

Broadcasters aren't responsible for the pictures. They are responsible for their own commentary feeds and lining them up with the incoming pictures.

Its a major sporting event, the quarter final of the Heineken Cup involving two Irish teams (and a major upset too). RTÉ News are right to cover it just the way they cover FA Premier League games even though they don't have the live rights to those.

We're spoiled for rugby on RTÉ & TG4 - between them they've the Six Nations Championship, the Autumn Internationals, the RaboDirect Pro12, the last two rounds of the All-Ireland League (though they could offer better coverage of that, before Sports Stadium was axed there was a regular AIL slot after the classified football results, but that was in pre-Celtic League days when the clubs were better supported). And highlights of the Heineken Cup within hours of the final whistle. The only rugby I need Sky for is the Summer Internationals (which unfortunately are also usually on at times when going to the pub isn't an option), the Lions Tour (once every four years), and of course, the Heineken Cup (which is only 9 weeks of the season, albeit important weeks!)

Contrast with England where the only live rugby union is the Six Nations Championship. All other live rugby union, including England's Summer and Autumn internationals, are on Sky thanks to a deal with the RFU. No domestic rugby union is shown live on free to air TV. Highlights of the Aviva Premiership and Liverpool Victoria Cup are shown very, very, late on Sunday nights on ITV1 and Heineken Cup highlights are not shown until Monday teatime on ITV4. So if you think we have it bad, the English have it much worse!

Absolute rubbish. They have every right to report on it.

The Welsh, Scottish, and the NI schedules all include selected matches from the Pro12 series, albeit not necessarily in english. You need Freesat, just as we do.

You missed the point (or confused English with British). English people who want to see English rugby live (other than the Six Nations) must subscribe to Sky/ESPN. Freesat would help them if they supported a Scottish, Welsh, or Irish team, but I think you'll find most English rugby fans support English teams.

No English teams play in the Pro12, they have their own league, the Aviva Premiership, which is on Sky and ESPN and only has very late night Sunday highlights on iTV.

ITV4 has Aviva Premiership highlights early on a Sunday evening. The ITV1 late night programme is a repeat of this.
