    Plus one.
Will we be able to watch the race tomorrow on Setanta Ireland?
Sad when F1 becomes pay per view.

Don't understand why it was blocked! As soon as qualifying finished the channel cleared again. As far as i know Setanta only transmit to Ireland so why broadcast a programme that cant be shown here? Is it because Sky now have the F1?

Setanta have the irish rights to broadcast and Sky have the UK rights afaik.

Did anyone see the buildup, did the intro to the F1 program come on at all?

Was it announced that it was actually intentionally blocked or could it just have been a technical mishap

ive the opposite situation, I dont subscribe to any sports channels but Sky Sports F1 HD seems to be clear any time i switch to it, I havent seen the channel during live broadcasts as that stuff is at 4 in the morning etc but all the replays seem to be clear as well as the racing documentarys in between.

You must be a HD subscriber. Sky Sports F1 HD is available to all HD subscribers wether they subscribe to sports pack or not.

ah cool didnt know that, seems surprising for sky to be giving this channel for free with HD pack. Nice bonus.

It was for the whole of qualifying. As soon as the programme ended it cleared (classic football match)

Apologies for the problems with our coverage of #F1 qualifying this morning. All sorted now and race will be broadcast live as normal

    It was a technical error

Rest assured the F1 channel won't stay 'free' for long, Sky don't do free!

Its a useful tool for them to gain some HD subs Id say the way they are currently selling it. They certainly got me onto HD whereas I was not even contemplating paying the sky sports subscription as Ive no interest in football etc.

I get the feeling that many HD subscribers who dont pay for Sky Sports do not realise that they can watch this channel, I had no idea untill I happened to press this channel by mistake the other night and found it clear, thought it was a mistake on sky's part untill my question was answered here today.

The same was said about Sky Atlantic when it hit our screens

But Sky Atlantic is just a regular entertainment channel, Sky F1 is a sports channel

Agreed but the point I was making was that there was huge speculation (people even stated a date) that Atlantic would be PPV after a certain period of time. Basically it was just there to "tease" and when we got hooked then they would remove the free viewing. It never happened.

Trust me I'd be the last person on this world to defend Sky :)

it was free for everyone but they did revert to pay once the channel came part of the entertainment pack, viewers who dont subscribe to that pack lost Sky Atlantic. Im not sure there is enough on Sky Atlantic to make it a ppv or premium channel.

You can watch F1 for free and without much outlay if you don't mind bodging another LNB on your dish:
