This looks exactly the same case and remote as a Storex Mediazapper HD that I own. In which case avoid this box like the plague. As a TV tuner it more or less works but the remote is a confusing mess. It has about 10 buttons more than it needs and seems to randomly invoke the user to use them for no good reason. It also doesn't do MHEG-5 so no digital Aertel or similar services.

The box claims to play AVI, MKV and other stuff off external USB but it is utterly useless. Some content plays, others lock the box or fail half way through or other errors. It can record content too which seems to work but I wouldn't trust it.

In short as a tuner it's okay, but the software sucks and so does the remote. For the sake of a tenner there must be better boxes.

Plenty of boxes on the market that do Saorview, Satellite and play media files from the USB and allow recording all in one. Have a look in the terrestrial forum. They start at €85.

I bought this box in Supervalue €45 , last week and must say I'm impressed with the box and the quality. I use all the buttons on the Remote for the PVR and everything records great and the media player is excellent with all the file formats I've thrown at it so far. I have a WD media player and this is just as good if not better with the extra functionality.

My indoor Ariel reception was only average but this up scales all the channels. Although the epg isn't as slick as Sky's it's definitely fine for me and at €45 you can't go took far wrong.

Will upgrade to a combo box when the Sky card trick is stopped.

after reading up on this a fair bit online decided to walk into the xtra vision here in Tralee and pick one of these up, picked up one of the 3 box's at the counter took it to one of the staff there and she just seemed to have no idea about it, looked in the back for them and then was told by the other girl there that they in fact did not have them in stock ever and they just were told they were getting them in soon and that there was meant to be a sign on the counter stating they were out of stock, it wasn't there and the girl didn't see any issue with having something out of stock, left on the counter and with no indication of when it would be back in stock? I mean I guess the next time I go there I could ask again if they had it in stock but surely they would understand people wont keep coming into their store asking about stuff on the counter which they don't have in stock.

On the upside! it did only take the girl in there about 10 mins to put down the boxes she was putting on the shelf in the back to acknowledge I was in the store standing at the counter to begin with... how the f**k do some of these people have jobs :< Depressing.

That's typical for Xtravision sinking ship sadly I feel.

aye irishhomer down here in tralee they've got massive signs on the window with ****e like "we need you gamers" encouraging bringing your games there to trade in, but any time I've gone in there the staff seem completely lost when it comes to any sort of info, I think the last 2 things of note in there was one guy who was trying to convince me that child of eden wasn't a game that was coming out to stores and he was sure he read it was dlc that was coming for another game. oh and when I was checking to see if I could pick up a collectors edition of Forza 4 asked in there for a laugh really and was asked on which console I would like to preorder it for :<

Saying that about 1/3 the store here has had its dvd's replaced with cards (birthday cards, mothers day etc) and everything around the counter and another side of the store is trying to sell some tvs and those tv star boxes... albeit not having those in stock.

Can't really imagine those stores are doing great, and tbh I'd be upset if they were given the state of them.

Hi can someone plz tell me if the xtravision boxes encrypt the data in the .pvr file? what is the data container .TS? I want to record and then watch on my Laptop with VLC or MPC.

Can some recommend a cheap n cheerful box that can do this?

    Thanks,

I got this box a few months back for €45, the files play perfectly on the computer via VLC player the file type is .mts which VLC Player supports, I haven't had any problems yet with it.

I noticed them in Supervalu, but for €50!
I checked my neighbour's box to see if it was the same one & it is as an installer sold him one for €75, but he took a €5 off for him

The box looks impressive with the extras, as i showed a few tips for him, like the channel list & able to move to the radio channels. As he's happy enough with it, until he found out how much they were

Although i haven't tried the usb storage on it for myself, it says it can play from an external hard disc drive, i assume that means a memory stick & not a 500 GB external hard disc drive?

I have recorded a few hour long programmes and they're just over 1GB, so as long as you were going to watch something and delete it or keep it on your computer a memory stick would be fine. I have a Toshiba 500GB External hard drive that I got in Lidl for €50, so I record tv series and organise them by folder which I can then watch at my disposal, same with movies. But a memory stick is fine for small amounts
