Crosspost from Commuting and transport. (I took the photo) Is this yoke accurate? I took this photo on a weekday night - so 700 people cycled into town on one weekday? I would have thought a few thousand would use that route daily.

It depends on your crossing the hall sensor in the cycle lane. If you're riding on the road instead, it won't pick you up.

They have recently installed one inbound on the Rock Road. By coincidence I checked the number on the way home at about 9 pm this evening and it was 602. On my way in most mornings I pass at about 8.40 am and the number is generally between 250/300. The counter only registers those passing over a sensor in the cycle lane, so there will be under-recording as people take a wider line in the bus lane. edit - just noticed that cdaly_ made the same point about the sensor while I was in mid-reply, however I don't think the under-recording on either road would be on a material scale.

I was a bit surprised/disappointed at the number as well. While there always seem to be a reasonable number of cycling commuters on the this road, and the number has definitely increased in recent years, clearly there is a lot of room for improvement.
