HD 4890, HD 6770 or GTX 550ti - €90-110 Budget Card Decision

Hello all,

Close to finishing my PC build purchase:


Intel Core i3-2120 3.30GHz LGA1155 3MB

ASRock S1155 Intel H61

4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3 1333MHz

Corsair 430 Watt CX430 V2 Builder Series 80 Plus Power Supply

Considering the 4890, 6770 and GTX 550ti are around the same budget price range (€90-110), which card would make the most sense? The 2009 era 4890 holds up nicely against the 6770 and GTX 550ti and I could get the former for cheaper. I am aware, however, that it is only DirectX 10 and demands more wattage. Could the Corsair 430w power the system above with the 4890?

Look for the 6970, about 10% to 15% faster than a 6770 and very good power consumption about 110 euros.

Otherwise the 550ti is a tad faster than the 6770 but generally a bit more (have to find the deals)

The new 7750 is about the same speed as a 6770 but even lower power consumption

The 4890, power-hog, out-dated, not good.

Thanks for the reply. Where are you seeing the 6970 for 110 euros, it's at least over €250 on dabs.ie.

I've found a better card at great value:

i think he miss typed 6970

6850 would fit lovely in your budget m8. great card for the money. if you could bump up to 140-150eu i would recommend to bump it up to 6870.

i know its over budget, but if you're ordering from HWVS this is a steal for €143. €30 is less that you'll likely spend on drinks on a night out, and will destroy all those cards you mentioned.

Thanks, but that 6870 doesn't included shipping, Amazon offer free 'Super Saver' delivery. The 6850 (Amazon.co.uk) is excellent value really, I'll go for that one.

Could the Corsair 430w keep up? I tried a PSU calculator and it seems to add up nicely but just to check with the rest of you on this board.

430w will be more then enough for 6850. i got 6870 in my old dell with 375w psu.

Holy ****, that's good value. It was good value at £99 a week or two ago and £10 cheaper now. Definitely the card to go for.

Just ordered one of these to replace a faulty 6770 i had to return.
