    Did anything happen there aside from complete and utter stupidity? Such as mechanical failure?

    As already being discussed on the Aviation forum. One stupidity and the other the altitude that the landing zone was when pulling off the return to enemy manouver means that the rotor disc could not provide enough lift to sustain flight.

    Also due to temp/pressure at altitude results in the engine not recieving full power for climb out.
