Academic Referee

    Applying for a Post grad on the PAC system, it is mandatory you include an academic referee. Any advice here? I don't have one.
    Can you just go up to the school your undergrad was in and get the secretary to get you one?

    Did you do a final year project? If so, one's supervisor is a fairly safe bet.
    Failing that, I'd pick a lecturer you had that knew your name (for a good reason..)

    Then you should email the potential referee and ask them if you can put them down as your referee. In the email you might also include a list of your results, (and possibly a very brief overview of your final year project if it's not the supervisor you're contacting) so that they will be able to give the impression that they are fully aware of who you are.

    Most lecturers will be happy to be a referee, so when they reply in the affirmative you're then free to put them down on your application.

    Better still, if you're around the college, might be to just stick your head in the door of the potential referees office and ask them if it would be okay if you listed them as a referee. This way is quicker, and ensures that the referee remembers you!
