hi there, sorry if this has been asked before.
Im looking to purchase a sat nav and am wondering is there any reccomendations for a good value one out there at the moment that comes pre loaded with the new garda speed trap zones?

Its for a family member who has been caught by the gatso vans a few times now doin 55-60 in a 50 zone.

Is it possible to get these pre loaded or is easier to just download them to an sd card after? thanks for any help lads and lassies

ps I know this should maybe be in the gps forum but there isnt much activity over there compared to here ..And i know theres a few anti-gatso posters here who may be willin to help;)

how about the family member simply drives below the speed limit? I assume it's in a town or a village and this is where people should always drive slower because you never know what happens, you can have a kid crossing the road etc.

Most sat navs come with the facility to load POIs indicating the usual location of fixed and non-fixed speed traps.

Irish Speed Traps allow you to download these to any Garmin Sat Nav.

You most likely won't get any new sat nav with these POIs pre-loaded.

I completely agree and i've said this myself. The fact is that they had been caught out just by going with the flow of traffic once and the other two times had been caught on a rural road out past our house where the zone goes from 80 to 50 about half a mile before it needs to and the two incidents took place so close together that she hadn't realised she was caught the second time before the first notice came (if that makes sense)

Im not here asking for ways of getting off the hook and i don't need advice regarding road safety i've never got points in my life but thanks anyway.

Point being the person learnt the lesson but feels very nervous driving now for fear of getting in more trouble, I want to get her a sat nav as an extra precaution and I had been meaning to get her one anyway so it will kill two birds with one stone

The problem here is that a sat nav will warn at every location where there might be a speed trap, rather than only where there is one.

Doesn't sat nav emit a warning when you are over the limit? Surely that's all you need.

I have a Garmin unit with safety camera alerts. It's good, but you can't completely rely on it - quite a few speed limits are wrong.

If they have a smartphone there's probably already an app.
And they won't forget the sat nav on the dash ( big break-in risk).

This is a decent priced gaming, but most importantly has the speeding/camera points pre loaded....
