At present I have UPC cable and was wondering what will happen when the switchover happens. I will admit that I'm a TV addict and at present I have an amp. that I use to multi room its the 1 in 8 out type will this become defunct after the switchover. I also have 3 recorders and will they end up the same or will have to get multi room box's. If this has already been discussed I apologize and would like to be directed to same thread.

UPC are not affected by the change over. It affects those who receive their television from an aerial. If you put up an aerial, you will receive the full service for free, but you will need a suitable Saorview TV or set top box.

This from the RTÉNL Saorview FAQ - http://www.goingdigital.ie/What/How+Does+this+Affect+me/
    5. DO I HAVE TO DO ANYTHING TO BE READY FOR ANALOGUE SWITCH OFF (ASO)?

    ...

If you currently receive the four Irish Free-To-Air television channels (RTÉ One, RTÉ Two, TV3 & TG4) on your television via a subscription or pay service You May Choose To Move To SAORVIEW But You DO NOT HAVE TO. Analogue Switch Off (ASO) does not impact on your current method of television reception or television set.

Companies carrying the Free-To-Air television channels (RTÉ One, RTÉ Two, TV3 & TG4) as part of their subscription or pay service packages includes, but is not limited to, BskyB, UPC, Magnet, Smart Telecom, Casey Cablevision, 3 PLAY Plus.

also this from the Dept's ASO website
    How does this affect me?

The old TV network is switching off on 24th October 2012.

Pay TV services such as Magnet, Sky, UPC and local TV operators which operate over cable, MMDS, broadband or satellite networks are unaffected by the closure of the old TV network. If you are a Pay TV customer you will continue to receive the Irish channels through your Pay TV service after 24th October 2012

I see your location is Galway, UPC appear to switching off some of their analogue cable channels there next week - maybe that will affect you http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=77720696#post77720696

Only if you upgrade to UPC Digital.

The Oct 24th date is about analogue terrestrial TV via an aerial switching off, it doesn't affect you if you're not using an aerial to receive any of the 4 analogue terrestrial channels. You said in your first post you're receiving your TV by UPC cable. Terrestrial and UPC cable are different transmission systems.

As I posted above UPC appear to be switching off some of their analogue channels via cable to make way for broadband, the only way to get these channels back is to upgrade to UPC Digital. I'm not sure how many analogue channels you will continue to receive via your UPC cable after next weeks UPC switchoff, maybe the 4 Irish and 4 UK channels. The UPC rep over in the cable forum has indicated all UPC analogue subscribers have been contacted about what's happening.
