    I got married in January and am not a person who likes beach holidays as I get bored quickly- I dont understand it.

    We went to India and had a great time. We also visited Dubai for a few days at end of trip. India offers everything IMO, we saw 5 Unesco world heritage sights in 3 days in one portion of trip. There are also options of beach for a few days if you want or a tiger safari which I did. I posted some photos of it in a photo thread here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056552270 .

    We did some middle-east stuff for our honeymoon

    Dublin -> Dubai -> Luxor (Egypt) -> Cairo -> Istanbul -> Home.

    We would have like to fit in more but lacked time & money.
    The above was done in 11 days

    However it did provide a lot of leisure and great activities

    Dubai- Maldives - Sri Lanka?
    Sri Lanka has things to see and is more relaxing than India, IMHO.

    What about Italy? You have Rome/Florence/Venice for culture, Amalfi Coast for sun/beach and Tuscany/Lake Como/Lake Garda for beauty. We’re doing a bit of a road trip round Italy in September – Rome, Lake Garda and Tuscany. Weather should still be beautiful. It’s nice to not have to fly too far away for your honeymoon, don’t underestimate how wrecked you will be after the wedding!

    We went to New England last year and it was my favourite holiday to date, started off in Boston for a few days, went up the Maine coast for some beach and relax time and then over to the White Mountains in New Hampshire for some amazing scenery and outdoor pursuits. I would recommend that trip to anyone.

    Indeed.

    India is not relaxing for the most part. It is an attack on the senses, smells, colour and sounds are all something to remember. There are beaches at Goa in the south though although I did not go there.

    I agree with Italy, either you want to base yourself in one place or travel a bit around. One lovely place I can recommend is Sorrento, a charming town near Naples. We stayed at Grand Hotel President (http://www.ghpresident.com/), a very stylish and relaxing hotel, with everything you need on site plus a really stunning view. The town is not far, and it's really cute and interesting, so you have different options.

    Italy is lovely, especially the Amalfi coast - it is just beautiful. I agree with the likes of Sri Lanka etc being better than India. How about a stopover in Dubai and then onwards to the Seychelles, Maldives, Mauritius. How about South Africa?
