Rover P6 value

Hi, first time poster to this forum. I've a 1974 rover p6 3500s, it's not in perfect condition but is a nice solid car. some bubbles on paint, pitting on chrome, scratch on one side, interior has a few marks but mechanically i think she's solid and the chassis is good, which can be a problem on these cars. Very presentable car but not show level.
I hadn't thought of selling but i'm skint at the moment and somebody's interested. as well i think in the long term i'd prefer something a little bit more modern, im thinking an early 80's lotus, not that i can afford it at the moment.
I'm just wondering what the value is? Since i've bought it the recession's hit and i know the market has dived. It's a nice blue colour with a black vinyl roof and cream interior, any ideas?

    Hi OP

I'm in the same boat as yourself. I'm doing a few small jobs to my P6 to get it ready for sale in the next few weeks.

    It's a '74 3500 with leather interior, SS exhaust, 5 speed SD1 box & power steering.

I'm thinking of asking 2.5k & if anybody offers anything close, I'll bite their hand off!:D

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

The market for classics (not highly sought after mint condition) is terrible at the moment. It depends, you could always find a keen interest, but I doubt you would get €2k for your car :(

If it is a car originally from the UK, it might be worth your while selling it over there...

I would love to buy a P6 if I had the cash. My Dad had a 2000TC when we were growing up, he still has it but it has been off the road for years. I have been keeping an eye out for the last while and watching prices on the likes of Donedeal etc. At the end of last year there was 2 3500S's advertised for about €1,500. Both stayed up for a long time. Then again winter is supposed to be a bad time to sell a car and maybe selling closer to the show season you might get closer to €2,000.

    Any chance of some photos?

Oh and keep us posted when you are selling

As an owner of a 3500s and many other P6's in the past. I have always kept an eye on prices. From what I see prices for P6s are very much on the decrease/free-fall, and I see them droping even further.:(

I have to say that even when the general classic car market was strong these cars were exceptional value. I got into them first because it was all I could afford at the time. Now I just like them and have put a few K into my car which was better than the average (IMO) in the first place. I know that I will never get a return on my spend...but to me that wasn't/isn't the reason I spend money on them. In the good times I made a little selling two previous P6s but that was a couple of years ago.

Now that prices for P6's and many of the "less" glamourous classics are at an all time low, unless you really needed to sell the car I wouldn't. I can't see the values rising in any way in the next few/many years. BTW if your budget is tight I wouldn't get a Lotus as they can be in many cases a bit of a money pit. I think the rule for buying any classic is the price is only half of the budget that you will need to spend generally to keep the car in good shape.

BTW, If anyone is selling a (pref Black) leather interior for a P6 PM me as I am always on the look out for a good one.

hey thanks for the input, i'll clean it up and see what kind of interest i get but i don't want to let it go for nothing coz it's still a lovely car and while i do want a lotus someday im just not able to take on something new at the mo.
i don't understand why these cars aren't more desirable i don't want to offend any p6 owners but at the risk of sounding girly i think they can be a bit ugly in some colours but down right gorgeous in others, yup that does sound girly :( oh well :)

Ahh, the 1970s BL colour chart!

The correct P6 colours are baby poo beige body and dog turd brown vinyl roof :D

Actually, that applies to any BL medium - large saloon!

Park one in a car park full of silver and grey modern cars and you will have no trouble finding though! :D

PM me details of the 3500s... it is an itch I have wanted to scratch for a long time. I was not shopping for one until I saw this thread. If a car became available at the right price I could well be interested.
