Diet is a big part of it, some linseed will help. For scurf I just use a reasonably mild shampoo, especially at this time of the yea\r when horses are hairy and/or have rugs on.

agree with above, doesnt have to be linseed, i just get vegetable oil from aldi, does the job as oils just keep coat/skin/hooves etc in better condition. also make sure she's not too heavily rugged at the moment, i left my horse's heavy rug on there during the heat this week and his skin has gone a little flaky under it. wouldnt worry about it too much, and don't over wash - if the shampoo doesnt completely get rid of the problem dont keep washing it, try dealing with it from the point of view of diet instead!

Flaky skin is caused by a nutrition imbalance, mainly lack of fat in their diet. As said about, oil is probably your best option. Not only does simple sunflower oil do wonders for the coat and skin, but for the appearance of the horse in general including the eyes, mane and tail. Cider vinegar can also work and is always handy to have lying about.
I would imagine there are some shampoos about and if diet doesn't work, you could try them. Just remember though, continuous washing could worsen the problem! :pac:

Head and shoulders I used the aldi version on my own in sensitive. Mane and tail spray all over after washing - especially problem areas. Lots and lots of currying. Also avoid washing your horse too much as water is drying and will remove the natural oils of the hair. I leave it to once a week now obvioussly her saddle, girth, bridle and boots areas may need a sponge. But you can brush it if itss not too bad. But currying is vital! It will encourage the release of natural oils to moisturise the hair.
