Not trying to be funny but most people wouldn't have personal experience of both.

Look at the IT Blanch course it looks similar layout and modules as ITT's course, really depends on what code they look at, etc...

Yeah your probably correct Gavin, probably 100% of students wouldn't have experience both - I was more thinking lets say you attend I.T. Tallaght and have a friend who attends I.T. Blanch.....

    Thanks for the reply anyhow!!!

Well I'm coming to the end of the Level 7 Computing course, so I can tell you about ITT courses, don't know anyone in IT Blanch tbh.

The courses you listed above are basically two courses, just difference levels. Computing and IT Management.

Both of these have a common first year, but from 2nd year they split, Computing looks at more aspects of programming (C++, Java) and design/development (UML).

Whereas IT Management they do a several months of Work Experience after 2nd year which lasts from after the summer exams till the start of semester 6 (2nd semester of 3rd year), they don't have classes during this time just work experience (lads in my year worked with SAP, Paddy Power, UCD, HSE, etc...)

My best advice is, google "The New Boston", look at his Java and C++ tutorials briefly and see what you think about programming before the final CAO date.

Gavin, thanks for that, appreciate it!!

Is there a internship within the degree courses?

In what way? After you're finished college?

Just another note, have a read over in the Technology forum on here about the best computing degrees, plenty say ITT have a very good one, never seen Blanch mentioned once.

Also whereabouts are you living? I'm the guts of an hour away for ITT and my determination to get to college is a disaster if I'm anyway late, especially if I've been in work the night before.

I was at an open day in DIT and in year 3 & 4 you get a job as part of the course which as a mature student would be brilliant!!!

Are the I.T. Tallaght computer courses hands on - i.e. Lets say you do a lecture do you go into a lab and practice what you just learned??!!

Im in Celbridge so either college is around 30mins away with no traffic. With traffic both are a nightmare i guess....

Ye my mate is in DIT and he's on work placement atm, don't think it's paid mind you. As I said for IT Management you have work placement but no in Computing in ITT.

Yup very hands on imo, in Computing you generally have a couple of lecturers and then a 2 hour lab each week, also in 2nd, 3rd and 4th year you have a subject which is a dedicated project. 2nd year it's in groups of 3, 3rd year it's in groups of 2 and 4th year you're on your own. As you can probably guess you have to up your ideas each year, 2nd year you spend the whole year on it, with the 1st semester dedicated to documentation and planning and the 2nd semester the development, whereas in 3rd year that's all done together in the 2nd semester.

    Thanks for that Gavin!!

It is my understanding that you do get paid within the work placement via DIT - Which is a bonus, however I didn't really get a good vibe from DIT tbh, so its either Tallaght or Blanch please god....

I'll get onto my mate in DIT. A few in ITT got paid, a few didn't, one got a second hand MAC for his work, it really depends on the company.

On a personal level I wouldn't do the DIT course, it seems dated imo, they study Pascal ffs and then C iirc.

Do you know the points required for the I.T. courses in I.T. Tallaght???

Not sure how up to date this is but from the website:
    What do I Need?

Grade D3 or higher in 5 subjects at Ordinary Level including English or Irish and Maths at Grade D3 or higher. (Grade C3 in Ordinary Level Maths is recommended but is not a requirement).
No previous, serious computing experience required
Students needn’t arrive as computer whiz-kids. They learn to become experts with us!
    Recent minimum CAO points: 255

255 - Cool, id say that will go up, not too much I hope :)

Taking your user name as your age could you not apply as a mature student?
