(Not sure where to put this thread)
I got this in work yesterday and thought it was pretty good. I always thought when people said fake euro coins they were talking about Thai or other foreign coins. It's easy to see the difference looking at it close.

    How about here? http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=633

Forgery of €2 coins is unlikely to interest collectors. Perhaps you should contact the Central Bank too?

This is quite interesting from a different point of view. Many medals are forged and show similar differences in surface detail. The detail in these pictures shows quite nicely the original minted coin versus a (in my opinion) poor cast coin. This is evidenced by the "bubbling/pitting" effect on the surface of the fake coin.

This bubbling and pitting also occurs in many forged medals which have been cast as opposed to stamping/minting/pressing of th eoriginal medals (some of them anyway).

Actually you'd be surprised! I bought a couple of Irish fake 2 Euro coins and they seem to do well on ebay, depending on how they were made and look. On one of mine, the lines that run down through the word 'Euro' don't line up which of course they should do as they're normally struck in one go. However unlike the OP's one mine doesn't appear to be a cast, there's no pitting and the edge even has the '2 *' which even those look fake but actually stamped.

The OP could probably get 5 or 10 euro for that coin from a French collector but as Preusse pointed out, it is only a poor cast and therefor would not have as much interest as a well made forgery.

This pitting/bubbling that Preusse mentions is also one of the main give-aways of fake cast ancient coins. Though by no means the only thing to consider in determining fakes as they even strike them.

I stand corrected/reprimanded. The fake is a crude enough effort but likely to pass muster in the darkened environment of the Antique Tavern a pub or some such outlet. Is it possible to buy them in bulk? :D

I can understand forging a medal or ancient coin, but why forge something of such a low value????

The Eurozone is massive and crack one forgery and you stand to make a fortune? Low value forgery is less likely to draw attention and can be passed off relatively easily. Just my tuppence two Euros worth.

Well the sign says no Armenian money... nothing about fake 2 euro coins :)

I weighed it and its about 1gram lighter than real 2 euro, it was a kitchen scales I was using thought. Going to bring it back into work and see if the coin bagging machine will take it.

I was asked the same in work today. From my reading online it costs very little to make, about 33cent in material. So 10 of these fakes is an easy €20 and costing €3.33. The come from eastern Europe and Africa so its worth their while if they're making easy money. I can't find the articles now.

Also easier to pass off as there is less information and pictures about forged coins. Type it into google and the only fake coin I can see is the one I've posted.

Here's another poor cast doing strangely well:

I have a €2 coin that I think is fake, but it looks very realistic. The major difference between this and the "real" €2 coins I have, is that it's very slightly thinner than the others (same diameter, though.) This one is German, the others are Irish.

Just wanted to check, all euro coins are supposed to have edges of the same width, no matter what country they're from? Right?

Well if you think €2 coin is low value, I have a fake 50 cent coin.
