You'll need to give your definition of what you consider 'mad prices'. The problem with era-specific loadouts is the further back you go, the pricier they get since you're either needing niche-market repro stuff or the real deal, both of which command higher prices out of a lack of viable alternatives.

For WW2 loadouts, accept it is something that you'll probably need to build up over time and will cost you significantly more than some generic US marine loadout (for example) circa 2003. You also need to ask yourself just how authentic you want to get; do you just want a general 'impression', or would you like something a bit more accurate (to varying degree). The answer to that question will also determine how costly your loadout gets.

Have you checked Soldier of Fortune who do quite a bit of period repro stuff, although their prices aren't bargain basement by any stretch of the imagination.

Edit: Here's a comment I made in another thread from a while back on a similar question about getting WW2 gear.

WW2 airsoft - and the same can be made for most historical/period airsoft endeavours - is a very niche area, and as such it all comes down to how far you are willing to go to be satisfied in achieving "the look". So if you want ebay-banned prices; stop now before you begin. Because you wont find any. Even the repro stuff ain't cheap since it's a very specialist niche area. Authentic? hehehehe, have fun with that ebay hunt ....

Anyway; I'll point you at Soldier of Fortune to start you on your way. Good luck whatever way it turns out for you. Just know that to get an accurate WW2 impression will not be cheap whatsoever and is probably best viewed as a project rather than something you want "quick for next week".

thanks for your replie fella. I would be after a realistic Waffen SS loadout or a panzer division loadout. The prices ive seen for replica ones have been 700 quid upward  i wouldnt mind doing it over time but id be after a genuine look.
i wouldnt be too fussy about boots as long as i can get a helmet, pants and shirt or heavy jacket of replica to the area i wouldnt mind overly much

€700 strikes me as a figure that's including a lot of genuine WW2 Wermhact items. Repro should cost you significantly less although it'll still be triple figure. That'd be without guns of course.

that is a high figue and you can get a replica look for a lot less try places like https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=396830270344764&set=pu.303240226370436&type=1&theater
