applied for tax file number online

    just did it there, i thought you were asked if you were a resident and you are supposed to answer yes, that way you dont get taxed to the hilt,but it never asked me online

    am i confusing this with something else?

    No, tax file number is just a number associated to you. when you start work you fill out a form and it will ask you "Are you a resident for tax purposes" and that will determine tax free allowance and tax rate etc.
