Houses in Earls Court&Viewmount - are they keeping worm?

    Hey folks,

    I am thinking about renting a house in Earls Court. The most important for me is that it keeps the heat.
    My future in-laws have a house in Powerscourt (which looks very similar to houses in Earls Court) and is very cold house, so I assume the same will be in this other estate.

    What's your opinion about it? - Are Earls Court houses worm?

    ya will have to enquire when viewing and see if it was insulated recently, used live in viewmount and our place was insulated a few months into renting and there was some difference in the heat

    The building energy rating cert should be available telling you how in/efficient it is at keeping warm in. Anything worse than a D and you will be spending good bit more on heat probably.

    You will be able to tell yourself, are the windows double glazed and in good condition? There should be about 25cm of insulation in the attic 30cm better. Seeing if walls insulated is difficult

    If the landlord is renting then afaik they should have a BER cert alright so that will tell you what the house is like,

    Yeah, it's a new law. Any landlord must be able to produce a BER certification.

    If the house has been renovated since construction it should be warm, but if its in original condition with single glazed windows and about 6" insulation then it will be cold.

    To check the walls have a look and see if there is a meter on an external wall for gas etc, poke around it and see what sort of insulation is in it.

    Of course you can have all the insulation in the world but if the place is drafts its not going to make a difference.

    Also even if it has been insulated recently you still have the problem of cold bridging from your floor slab to where it's connected to the wall.
