Depends what you are after. iMac is more powerful and has a bigger screen. MacBook is portable.

I think it really depends on your situation, I've got a 13 inch MBP second hand of adverts, i sued it for film editing, and a ton of photoshop workI got a mini dvi connected to a 22 inch lcd screen I love it, its not stupidly heavy and gets the job done...

I've an iMac and I love it, very powerful and it's great for watching on TV etc etc.

On the other hand, my GF has the macbook pro and I always reach for it when I want to search something or read something online. Laptops are so much easier to just have a quick browse.

If you think you'll be using the computer very frequently, get the iMac.
If you think you'll just use it casually, get the macbook pro.

    iMac is more powerful

This isn't strictly always true thou is it ? The 15" and 17" macbook pro's are beasts of yokes with i7 chips.

Then again - the imac's are overdue an update

Laptop i7 is not the same as desktop i7. Even when sprinkled with magic mac dust.
