    Hi Guys

Thinking of starting to take up cycling to cycle to work, college and a good cycle at the weekends or something, but just wondering what your thoughts would be on what sorta bike to get.

Don't want to spend too little on one that falls apart and don't wanna spend too much on one that I don't get the proper use of. What do you guys think about a Specialized Crosstrail '12.

Is this bike worth what you pay for it?

    Cheers

You really should be looking for a road bike or hybrid bike for that kind of use, ie. narrow tyres, reasonably light weight, and no suspension. You can fit mudguards & lights and rack/panniers for commuting and remove if you want for your weekend spins. If you think you'll be doing any sort decent weekend spins (2 hours+), then a road bike with drop bars would be better than a hybrid (straight bars), because the drop bars make it more comfortable and more efficient.

Dont be put off by the "racing bike" look of road bikes, most brands have a range with geometry from "relaxed" touring style with an upright riding position to proper racing with a very low "aero" position.

Thats a good starting point. You can get a good entry level road bike with basic accessories, helmet, lights, pump, for about €1k. You may be able to avail of the Bike To Work scheme, have a look at the thread here for more info.

Plenty of threads on here with "new bike" recommendations, but here's a few to consider from the same shop as your link,

    Cube Peloton

    Lapierre Audacio

    Specialized Allez Elite

No. You dont need fat tyres and suspension for road use and it's not good enough for mountain biking. An invention of the marketing dept, and pretty useless. That type of bike seems to end up on Donedeal and Adverts pretty quickly.
