from rabbits ears to modern age - help

Hi All,

currently we have a 15+ year old TV and a small "rabbits ears" Ariel on top, which with a bit of tweaking gives us 3/4 channels....

I'd really like to get a free to air satellite system which can pick up many World channels, esp in Asia (japan / china etc) and also German channels.
But also be able to watch RTE and what ever UK channels too.

i havnt a clue where to start

does the free to air system include a saorview box? or do we need to buy that too? or does it come built into a new TV that we buy?

Are there any good suppliers out there that can come along and supply and fit what we want that can be recommended and roughly what would this cost?
Im also going to be getting a decent TV too so we can enjoy modern TV!

For the Irish channels you require either a Saorview approved STB (with your cuurent TV) or a Saorview approved iDTV - http://www.saorview.ie/products-retailers/, http://www.saorview.ie/make-the-switch/.

The Irish channels are only available free with an aerial or via a subscription with UPC cable/MMDS or Sky dish.

For the UK channels a Freesat+ receiver and dish is a good option for the 28 deg east satellite position.

For UK and German channels etc you will require a multi-LNB dish setup together with a FTA satellite receiver.

There are combi/combo terrestrial/FTA satellite receivers available but if you're going to replace your 15 yr old TV with a new Saorview approved model a combi may not be required for the terrestrial channels.
