Hi... just wondering what your opinions were on bare metal resprays? Are they much more expensive? Are they worth it? Any advice would be appreciated

Bare metal respray is a lot more labour intensive and time consuming therefore more expensive. Worth it? Depends on the car really and value . If you have a car with a lot of sharp angles , flared arches ect , I think a bare metal respray would keep the angles of the car looking sharper rather than a normal respray which would soften the angles a little.
If you have the skills and a garage and you could disassemble the car yourself , and strip it with nitromors or similar then give it a light coat of etch primer to stop surface rust , send it for respray to a professional and then reassemble yourself . Your final bill would probably be the same as a normal respray as you've cut out the extra labour costs.

Talk to a body shop that has experience in classic work and talk over the pros and cons. Look at their previous work and get prices for the various options and go from there.

I've used this company and can highly recommend them:

    http://www.lanes.ie/

I've no connection with them other than being a very satisfied customer.

I'll be using them to get my golf painted at some stage, saw a couple of examples of their work and it's very good, and I'm fussy :)
