After 7 years they want me to link my personal bank account.

It seems to me that once 'linked' they can for whatever reason lay some sort of charge on my personal bank account at any time without my authorisation.

    You say:
This cannot happen unless you set up a direct debit. Paypal doesn't operate direct debits though, and cannot source funds from Irish bank accounts. Linking an account is for withdrawing money.

    *********************

But the following shows that when you link a card or a bank account they can in fact take money from it without your authorisation.

    Q. I've just registered a credit card/3V voucher and Paypal have taken €1 from me! What do I do?

    A. They haven't taken anything. They charge a small amount to your card, with a 4 digit reference code to appear on your statement. You use this code to verify you are the card holder. The amount charged is then available for you to spend, as it should appear in your Paypal account as a cash balance. This is the account verification process, and should not be confused with address confirmation.

They have clearly taken $1 from this persons account without his authorisation or Direct debit. The fact that the $1 is for verification purposes and can still be spent by him is irrelevant. If they can take $1 they can take a lot more....and once its in the paypal account they have control. If there was ever a dispute and they had taken money from the private bank account and put into the paypal account as we both know the paypal account can be frozen at anytime or worse.

Do you see the concerns here?

We would welcome further comments Jor el.

Don't restart closed topics, and don't quote out of context.

The post you quote about linking a card is for linking a credit card, NOT a bank account.

Do not start another thread on this topic.
