    Hi guys,

A friend of mine is a self-employed carpenter however for the last year he is on a social welfare. He got a letter from revenue to file his annual return. He contacted his accountant however her number was unavailable. Can anyone help with how to file this annual return (he wasnt working in 2011 at all)? Is there any forms online or meybe he has to go to the Revenue office?

And the second question is how to close VAT and not to be considered self-employed anymore?

    Many thanks!

All info needed is here: http://www.revenue.ie/en/index.html
Also if he rings up the local tax office they will be happy to help him.

Would suggest he reads the website first, and then rings the tax office to ask them about any bits that confuse.

File the form which the letter asks him to file. It's probably a form 11. The link below is for the 2011 form 11. If he has no self employed income he should de-register using form TRCN1, link below. It's the same form to cancel vat and self employed registration.
