The only information you need to give is your paypal email address.
If you are buying an item then yes they see your home address, but only if you have registered that as a home address in the account.

No, I am sending something to someone I've never met and would prefer if my home address details etc are kept private and they want to pay me via paypal.

So you reckon if I just give them my paypal e-mail address they won't be able to access any other info on me?

    Thanks

If the person is sending you money then normally your home address wont show up on the invoice. However, paypal update their policies from time to time so that might have changed. Get a friend who has paypal to send you a euro or something and you can check it out. When someone pays into your account, they will get an invoice as a receipt.

I wonder what information they can get by having my paypal address?

If I send €0.01 to a valid paypal email address, the recent activity then shows that €0.01 was sent to "FirstName LastName", so they get your firstname and surname if you haven't already given them this.

(I just tried this with a friends email address which is *his_boards_username*@gmail.com and now his name appears on my acccount)
