Checking in online Aer Lingus

    Silly question..

Myself and the rest of the family have gotten a present of flights to England from my Aunty. She booked them and sent me the ref number so I could check in online and whatnot. Having just tried to do this it won't let me until I book seats, which they charge extra for. I know when booking the flights this is not mandatory so why would they stop you checking in online if you haven't pre-booked a seat?

Also (it's been a while since I've flown Aer Lingus or been in the airport) do they have machines to check in in the airport or will I need to go to a desk to have them printed and possibly get charged for that too?

You can only check-in online for free 30 hours and less before the flight.

There are machines at the airport that you can check-in at either, it's a very simple process, if you check-in online make sure your printer is working beforehand!

Ah that's a bit annoying. Printer at home isn't working properly so I might chance the machines there instead. So that'll circumvent having to book a seat?

Yep, Aer Lingus are annoying that way, they try to fool you into thinking you have to buy a seat.

Just remembered there is some app that you can use to store your boarding cards on but personally I'd rather just check-in at the airport.

Also unless you have access to a printer in the UK and the airport you're flying from will allow it you'll have to check in at the airport on the way back, as in you can't check in online from here unless you're going for less than 30 hours!

Might look for that app, that could be handy as well. Ah the Aunty will have a printer in her office so I can nab that. Cheers for the help lads
