I've never gone myself, but I've heard a lot of good things about the centre in the Turnpike area of Ennis, next to O'Dowds

+1 for Mary and Dr. Keir McNamara of the Turnpike Acupuncture Clinic. I'd highly recommend them :)

I'll stick needles into you for half the price of any acupuncturist if you like.

It'll do exactly as much good.

(acupuncture doesn't work, there is no evidence to support it or plausible mechanism for how it could cure any ailments beyond the placebo effect)

Ah yes, the old “it’s all dangerous nonsense and those quacks will end up killing you” bi’ a’ blarney.
Thanks to complementary therapy (Acupuncture, Herbs, Chiropractors and Physical Therapists) I have not been in need of a doctor since the early 90’s.
That doesn’t mean I won’t go to one if I needed to. Complementary means “as well as”.
On the other hand, running to the doctor because you’ve got the sniffles is an idiotic waste of time and money, as well as very dangerous due to the toxic waste people are given as “medicine”, doctors are schmoozed by the pharma industry to prescribe as much of that crud as possible to people, even though a lot of it is unnecessary, useless or even dangerous.
And in a lot of cases it doesn’t treat the condition, only the symptoms, leaving you dependent and even addicted for years or even the rest of your life, which could be shortened by that crap.
Thousands of people every year die from prescription medicine, the only reason there is no outcry/ban is because governments are in the pocket of the pharma industry and people are brainwashed by their propaganda.

One could also argue that "Alternative/Complementary/Natural Therapy" is also a big business these days with just as much motivation as big pharma to further its cause/profits.

It's nowhere near as vast and corporate. In fact, laws where brought in to outlaw patent herbs in order to protect their profit margins.

The pharma industry is fighting tooth and nail to keep any competition out of the market, there's the dangerous quak argument, the untested herb argument (herbs have only been around for millions of years), the "useless" argument and of course the legal way, pharamceuticals are a billion dollar industry and have a lot of sway with governments in the world.
None of the practitioners I've been with are part of some global, multinational industry, all very cottage still.
In China the approach is to have both side by side, medical doctors, acupuncture and herbs.
Western medicine has definitely done a lot for people, when I'm lying in a ditch after a car crash I defintely want an ambulance and a hospital.;)
