I've already posted a couple of threads on this but got no replays so i'm trying here..

this is what i'm thinking of building my HTPC

    4GB Kingston ValueRAM PC3-10667U CL9 €19.37
    ASRock Z68M-ITX/HT, Sockel 1155, ITX €97.28
    Intel Core i3-2120 Box, LGA1155 €106.34
    Silverstone SST-ML03B Milo Desktop - black €54.20

I'm going to buy an SSD for the OS and might add a Bluray at a later stage. is there anything else that I should add to this? I'll be installing a version of linux on it prob... so might get a more compatible TV tuner card.

would this be ok for a build? and what kinda software would you think be best to get

I think xbmc is by far the best for htpc's.

Even if you dont choose xbmc as software the xbmc forum has a lot of builds, cheap and expensive, they will help you out on this as it is purely for stuff like this (i.e. building htpc etc.)

Again xbmc for software. win7+xbmc, linux+xbmc, xbmcbuntu or openelec, your choice.

thanks for the reply I've kinda moved off the idea of a HTPC tho I'm thinking now media server i got a new TV with a built in media server so makes more sense having a backroom to stream to any device over my network...i'll have a look at xmbc tho

Ya basically but I'll be building a pc to use for watching Movies in my bedroom and watching TV so I'll prob use XBMC on that but just gonna bump up the specs to allow video transcoding to stream to my downstairs TV and Xbox in the other room that way I can play files wherever I am and it's easy for the whole family to access the Movies and all that and since the rest of the system is going to be good get a decent graphics card and get back into gaming again
