I am thinking of taking a very early bus on Friday.

Can you buy a bus ticket at the station a few days in advance?

    No

Ordinary Return Tickets (monthly validity) are valid for one outward journey on date of issue as shown by fare paid and/or other details on the ticket, and for return journey for up to one month from date of outward travel.

If you buy your ticket online you will save 5% and can specify the date you wish to use it.

Can you buy a ticket Dublin Airport - Belfast online?

Trying to find the cost of a ticket from Dublin Airport to Belfast on the X2 service. Not sure if this is more expensive than the standard 200 route.

you can't buy cross border tickets online at all and afaik the X2 service has been finished now as it was only for a set period and the price was the same as the 001.

It's a pity that's gone. It was a viable alternative to taking the car.

Bus Éireann stations which have ticket vending machines can sell tickets for "Tomorrow" and "Advance".

But not all stations have these machines.

Dublin Busáras has. Drogheda has. Waterford has. Monaghan doesn't etc...

Can you provide a link to the part of the Bus Eireann website that confirms this?

The Bus Éireann website does not seem to contain an explanatory section on the use of ticket vending machines at bus stations though the truth of this information can be verified by going to a ticket vending machine.

When using the ticket vending machines the first thing to be done is to type in the destination. This then brings up a screen showing origin and destination at the top (e.g. Dublin to Omagh) and requiring the intending passenger to select the date of travel: "Today", "Tomorrow" or "Advance".

After that it's a case of selecting the type of passenger viz. "Adult", "Student", "Child" or "Family".

Next select the type of ticket: "Single", "Midweek Return", "Day Return", "Return" (i.e. valid a month) or "10 Journey".

    Then onto payment.

    Hope this helps.

Handy to know this! They should advertise this feature on the website as many people would be looking to buy a ticket for later in the week or a future date.

On a similar note...can i get the Student rate to Belfast using my college ID or?
I presume tickets for the late night ones (when Busaras is closed) are bought on the bus?

Also, where's the pickup point where in Belfast when the Europa Bus Centre is closed? :pac: Last time i was there i thought there was 24 hour buses, then thought otherwise when i saw the Bus Centre closed and just wandered around Belfast til it re-opened :roll eyes:

    Thanks ! :)
