Anyone know a good site for RAM?

I'm looking to upgrade my RAM and get some DDR2 PC-6400 RAM.

    Current specs:
    Windows 7
    MSI K9AGM3 (MS-7367)
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+
    4 RAM Slots (2 taken)
    2x1GB Crucial (CL5?)

I've 2GB already and its working grand, but some software I'm trying to install says I need minimum 3GB. I figure it can't cost that much for 1GB, maybe 20 euro or so.
I'm working through the sticky above and can find some places selling slower RAM (CL6?). Can anyone recommend a site where I can get some fast RAM cheaply? Any brands to avoid?

    Thanks.

This crowd http://www.memoryc.com/ are based in celbridge and prices not bad. Also they explain the different types of ram quite well.

Shop4Memory.com in Kildare. You're looking for DDR2-PC6400? (prices incl VAT &delivery)

1 GB dual channel kit (2x 512 MB) for 26 Euro.

Cheers lads. I got 2x1GB for 30 delivered on that site.

Incidentally, is there anywhere I can find out the fastest CPU available for my motherboard?

Here's a list of all supported processors, take your pick. ;)

If in doubt, check the CPU on the PassMark benchmark comparison list.

    Wow! Thats some list!!

Presumably the more I scroll down the page, the faster the processor is (at least until I reach the Semprons)?

I'd say the AMD Phenom 9950 Quad-Core is the fastest CPU for this board.

    Passmark score: 3027 (your AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ scores 1082)

Costs around 120 Euro new, may require better cooling. Is it worth it? Your call...

    Here's my board:

Apparently, I can go even better than that CPU. It looks like this bad boy will work too (if I can find it online), since it supports AM2+:

I only see the 940 listed (which is still a tad faster than the 9950), not the 980.

Well here's those 2 CPUs compared:
    http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/93/AMD_Phenom_II_X4_940_vs_AMD_Phenom_II_X4_980.html

They seem to have the same socket compatibility, ie AM2+.

Maybe MSI just didnt update their page since the 980 was released. Though I might look around and see if I can price both of them first!

Also, on the RAM situation, I've had that PC as is for maybe 4 years, and I just noticed that all this time my RAM was running in single channel mode! I swapped them around and now they're in dual channel and theres a noticeable improvement in speed of opening programs!! Feel so stupid!! :p

Tis quite common this. I've seen machines people got "upgraded" in a shop without the modules in the correct bays, suprising many don't realise. Also some manufacturers color each pair of dimms a certain colour, so it makes logical sense to put both modules in the one colour, even though its not right :P

Probably the shops who charge you 40 yoyos for their "advanced" diagnosis and then tell you that your operating system needs reinstalling. :D
