Buy Samsung UE40D5520 now or wait for 2012 models?

I am looking to buy a new TV. Have had my eye on the Samsung UE40D5520. I missed the < €600 price in Currys after Christmas and have been keeping an eye on it since waiting to see if it would go down again.

Over the past couple of weeks Powercity no longer have it for sale online and now Currys have upped their price to €650. Also the 2012 Samsung models are starting to make an appearance.

My question is should I hold out for a good price on the UE40D5520 or should I be looking at other makes/models?

    My requirements:
    Budget: Less than €700
    Full HD
    LED LCD
    Saorview
    DLNA
Preferably built-in WiFi (if built-in WiFi not in budget WiFi through dongle or at least LAN port)
Best quality picture my budget will afford

Not overly concerned about Smart TV/Apps but if they are available all the better.
    Not pushed about 3D.

Any comments or suggestions very welcome.

I'm in a similiar debate (also considering 40" versus 46")...

If you're not pushed about Smart apps, then the next model down, the D5000 is €70 cheaper...

Both have very similiar/same spec on picture, sound, connectivity and USB/DLNA, I even think the D5000 looks better switched off (but I could be imagining that).

The only major difference I can see is Smart Apps and tbh I'm not impressed with any of the major manufacturers apps capability, whilst it would be nice to have apps built in, if they don't support netflix, RtE player and 3 player (and as far as i can tell the Samsung Apps on 5 and 6 series don't and won't) then you're better off using one of your 4 HDMI sockets for an Apple TV or WDTV box...

Worth mentioning the specs indicate the Freeview tuner (in the UK at least) is SD only - given that RTE only have one HD channel not sure how big a deal this is to you.

We had the same conundrum recently and went with richer sounds in Belfast for 630 euro all in including delivery. Sure its not really worth the hassle in the republic with regard to Aps and smart TV. We could always attach a media player or make a PC and attach it to the tele at a later date.
Best of luck with it as its a minefield with all the different options out there!

You could max out yur budget and go for the Sony 40EX723. For the bit extra you get all your requirements, plus:

    100Hz tech (better for sports)
Full Smart TV inc browser, DLNA, Skype capability (accessory needed), USB record for Saorview, Facebook, Twitter, TV3 catch-up (3player)
    Improved Sound
3D capability (when you're ready to upgrade)

Downside, is that for TVs in this price range wireless is an extra accessory

Er, do you mind me asking. What's the difference between a 3D tv and a tv with '3D capability'?

I bought this TV in February and I'm very happy with it. Picture quality is great.

I got it in Powercity for 579 Euro. I wasn't bother with 3D.

The smart tv functionality isn't much to be honest, it's got youtube, picasa, facebook etc. I mainly just use youtube. It's a pity the RTE player don't have an app for it.

What i really like about this is you can plug in a usb external harddrive and play 99% of video types straight off it. I even can play off self powered usb harddrive.

No wifi but I have it plugged into the UPC router with a LAN connection and it's fine.

No browser with SMART TV but that didn't really bother me. You can also use a samsung remote app on smartphone as a remote too.

Any other questions on this TV, give me a shout.

    Hi
I got one of these a month ago and loving it after the 1980's box we had for years. I have a few questions? Can you access your files on your PC hard drive through the router as I was scrolling through it the other day and suddenly could see my PC on the scroll down source menu but its gone now. Any ideas how to access it again and get into my PC?

Also how to use the samsung app on the iphone to control the TV as its not got a wireless dongle? It is connected to the internet through a lan cable.

    Cheers

The only way to access your PC files would be to connect the PC to the TV via the VGA port (Blue port). This is what the PC source is for on the source menu.

I think once the iphone is connected to the wifi and your TV also connected to the router via a LAN cable it will work ok.
