Was it sent via registered post? If so, get the tracking number off of him

You could always contact an post customer service on their website. Standard proceedure for an post thats underiverable through the address being unreadable is they first look for a return to sender address but if none is found they will open the parcel / letter for any clue as to ether the sender or recipient. If none is located its held in storage for a while (no idea of the length of time) for someone to claim it. They would usually look for a description of the item(s) or letter and take it on good faith if the description matches up.

Bear in mind its takes a while for it to reach the stage where they open it up as very few people in an post have the authorisation to do this and strict rules need to be met before this step is taken..... thanks to Darcey's fix it friday for that answer!
