Advice on club fitting

    Hi,

I'm looking for advice for getting fitted for clubs. the clubs in question are driver, 3 wood, 5 wood.

i'm also slightly toying with the idea of getting fitted for irons.

but my question is. I have a Ping G10 driver, G5 3 wood. i'd imagine i'd have to try and sell these privately if i'm going to get fitted for new clubs.

I have wilson staff Di9 irons, about 2.5 yrs old, in decent nick, grips all still good. could i get the shafts on these redone to suit my swing? or would be better advised getting new irons?

this means selling the irons privately again. I really should have done this when i was first buying them but i honestly wasn't even aware of the custom fit thing.

does anyone know a good custome fit service in the greater dublin area or surrounding counties, one that is customer friendly, and doesn't charge a fortune.

    thanks for any tips.

    BTW - i'm a 21 handicapper.

depends on how much you want to spend and on what brand.

i would say fore golf or the titleist fitting centre in carton house if you're really serious.

after that if you want to cheap out you can go to mcguirks or american golf for basic fitting.

Has anyone ever used celbridge fitting centre at the driving range,

They custom fit for wishon golf, never heard of them but I'm looking at getting new irons and they seem to have a good rep online.

Yes I've used Celbridge driving range a few times and find them very good. They don't try and push anything on you and there's no hard sell. I bought a set of Epon irons back in 2008 and while they weren't cheap they gave me a good trade in on my old clubs. Even though they're not that popular, they're great irons and I've no intention of changing them.

Towards the end of last year I got fitted for a new driver and eventually went for a Ping G15 which I'm hitting great (play off 9). I hit 5 or 6 drivers using the launch monitor, including my old one (a Nike which was 2 years old) and the G15 gave the best results.

Think it only cost €90 to change as the G15 wasn't brand new but someone had hit it a few times but didn't like it,

henry in carton house is supposed to be the business if you're buying titleist. the bad news though is a heard rumor today that he was shipped off to the uk.

There are a few ways of looking at it IMO.
First is budget. Depending on condition best price you'd get selling privately would be €200/€250(guess) maybe less for your current gear. So if you are buying more pricey brands current models you could be giving €280(driver) €220(3 wood) €500/€700(irons) again guessing. So it's not out of the question you could be spending €1000 along with your current set there. I'd want to be getting fitted if I was spending that much for sure. Also if you did drop that much money I'd be amazed if they wouldn't take a trade of your old clubs.
Secondly. As a 21 h/capper you could be quite happy with your game as it is now but if you have ambitions to lower it you might like to save the opportunity of getting fit until your skill comes up to a higher level, that's kinda where I am atm. I recently bought a good bit of new gear but all I did was go into Nev*** bo** and had my swing speed matched to suit shafts in the clubs I wanted. I kinda rambling best thing to to is figure out what you have to spend and based on that decide what level of customisation that buys.
My best advice is anyone selling to you are salesmen do your homework on what you want before you are told you need what they want to sell you.

Have to agree with mrc. regarding getting up to a higher level first.

If your drives are all in the middle of the fairway every time, likewise your woods, then it sounds like you will benefit hugely from a fitting.
But if your still improving, i would hold off until you swing is more grooved, and that should show in a lower handicap.
Myself, at your handicap level, i have made quite a few major swing changes that would have been money down the drain..
Im still waiting to get good(read 'reliable') enough to get custom fit..
