hi lads i'm looking for some advice as how to tackle this, the paint was like this when i got the car 2 years ago but has widened a little since then so i want to do a DIY job on it, just wondering would you have anytips as how to go about it? i have got some decent filler and have the corresponding paint in a tin but am going to get it put into aerosol form.

    regards,

    goss

That's severe rust causing the cracking. Even if you were the best painter in the world (Which you're not going to be with Aerosols), the rust will be back up in a month.

You need to bring it to a bodyshop for 2 reasons. One - to treat the rust. Two - the amount of extra labour you'll have to pay a bodyshop to rectify your own paint job will be extraordinary. I did a car last week that someone painted on their own, just a simple job on a bumper, but to rectify the mess they made and repaint added another 3 hours on to the job.

Hi goss101 i would have to agree with owen its not going to be an easy diy job, your paint has blown with the rust hideing away under your paint work, but you could save yourself a few euro get a quote from a body shop and ask then if you prep it for paint how much it would be then,i did this last year and saved over €100.but don"t go at it if your not confindent to do it you could make it worse and cost you more.being white is also hard to match color in aerosol.

I'd agree. There could well be a horror story lurking there.

well i've repaired a good few boats in my time to a fairly high standard, i know metal and fibre glass are two totally diff things but i reckon i'll get it fairly right, it's only a temp fix anyway until i can afford to get a new panel welded in.

Well goss if you have done body work before then you should have no problem with that even as its a quick fix then go for it, post the finished job.
