Would You Like To Be Scrum Coach For The IRFU?

The IRFU are now advertising for the new position of "High Performance Scrum Coach". This coach will work closely with the provincial academies and implement a new scrum scrum program for props.

The IRFU claim that they've been planning this for over a year but the announcement comes only a few days after the demolition job that was done to our scrum. IMO this is the IRFU scrambling for something to deflect the heat coming their way. The IRFU have probably been planning to advertise for a new scrum coach anyway. I just worry thay they've rushed this plan out the door as a knee jerk reaction to last Saturday. I'd hate to see a good idea be wasted because the IRFU didn't have the idea fully cemented.

You'd think that top unions would have agents running around making calls to well known scrum coaches all over the world, rather than sticking up a vacancy on monster.ie or something...

    I'd say both happens.

The IRFU are covered by employment law so are probably being open about recruitment in case of any legal issues

You don't come up with a job position like that in a day, nor do you advertise such positions during the course of a competition.
The same as employing Bryan Cullen as a fitness consultant the week of him winning a GAA All-Ireland final wasn't a reaction to poach a high-profile winning captain from another code.

I mentioned that the IRFU probably had this planned for quite a while. But I do think the announcement may have been rushed through after what happened on Saturday.

It wasn't "scrambling for something to deflect the heat coming their way" is what I was saying.

That was a rather poor choice of words on my part.

Is Pat McCarthy still pretending to be the scrum coach for Munster? If not maybe he could pretend to be the same for the IRFU ?

Im pretty sure I could do it.

All you have to do is say "Crouch, Touch, Pause, Engage" a few times in front of a scrum machine.

    Easy money.

You need to mention the "dark arts" of the front row every now and then too...
