Rugby for foreigners

Hey I work with a good deal of foreign students of various ages (18-40) and I constantly get questions asking of any rugby teams would be willing to let the train with them or try out for a team. Some have little experience, others a lot and some none at all. Most would be living in the Dublin city centre but willing to travel. I would just like to know if anyone knows of any team or teams I could tell them to contact. They will all be staying in Ireland for at least a year, could be a few Jonah lomus among them! Probably not though... Thanks

If its foreign students the first place to try would probably be their own college club.

UCD and TCD would have teams suitable for players of all levels of experience.

That said all clubs would be willing to allow them to train with them and try out for teams, a membership fee may be necessary though. Lansdowne and Bellfield are close to the city center but there are many others.

Most clubs would probably prefer players linking up with them in August when they are doing their preseason work, but very few are patricularly picky about it unless the players are going for senior teams.

Thanks, they are just English students, sorry should have mentioned that, they are part of an English language program not related to any national colleges or anything. I'll pass that on though. If anyone else knows of any teams please reply! Thanks ciaran

J4/J5 teams would be your best bet, but the season is at it's end now so it will be a few months before they are back in pre season training

We (Tallaght) have had a fair few nationalities thorugh our club in the last couple of years, from Eastern Europeans of various countries to some French lads. Good few Irish lads of Afican parentage too.

I'd imagine most Dublin clubs are similer, what with it having a fairly big immigrant population.

Stillorgan has three teams, J2, J4 and J5, we've had a good cross section of nationalities with us, including French, Spanish, German, Belgian, Canadian, American, English, Welsh, Mexican, Brazillian, Argentinian, Polish, Hungarian, Aussie, Kiwi and even a Saffa! There's a Dub or two in the club too, but don't let that stop ye!

Not far from town, close to Luas green line. Pre-preseason starts with training on Thursdays for July before proper training resumes in August.

PM me for any more queries if you like.
