    Hi

Last year got rid of sky, took the HD box up to the parents to let them use their subscription to access the itv channels and record them as per the thread on here about using the the FTV card I have. Anyhoo that is working fine for them, but now they cannot record channels that they have, such as alibi etc and are getting a not subscribed message on the record failed. Is this because they have to phone sky and get their card paired to my box?

If your parents have a Sky subscription with a Sky card then in order to use your HD box (for recording, etc) they would need to ring Sky to pair their card to your box.

I thought recording/pairing limitations applied to premium channels only. Alibi is hardly premium.Anyone confirm?

There is a higher sub for HD channels, looking to swap in a HD sky box myself. Will only free HD channels work on a SD sub?

No, recording applies to ALL programmes.

    Hi

I have a spare sky hd box along with the viewing card. I am thinking of getting it connected in another room in my house. I have no interest in paying for multi room but am aware that certain channels are still available without a subscription. What I want to know is can this box be used off the same dish and if it can will changing the channels on one box also change the channels on the other sky box in effect having to view the same channels on 2 separate boxes. Would sky come out and install the box even if I have no intention of paying multi room

    Regards

Box can be used to view fta channels in another room, however you wont get everything on a hd box unless u get a ftv card which is an old sub card from england, often available to buy on auction sites for about 20-30 euro.

It will not affect the operation of the box in another room, so you can watch separate channels.

Sky will not install it for you, u will need to contact a local tv installer in your area.

    Hi

    Thanks for the reply

I already have a sky card. This should be good enough to get a number of channels without having to get a fta card. If I can get the box installed that should be good enough. Is the fta card necessary or will I get away with the sky card I have

When you connect your Sky HD box to your satellite you will get FTA (Free To Air) channels. The problem is that with the card you have the channels available to you will use the Irish EPG (menu) which means only a small number of channels will be available to you thru the EPG. To get channels like the BBCs, ITVs, etc will you have to access them thru the 'Other Channels' button. Its workable this way but it's a 'pain'.

You can get a UK FTV (Free To View) card. This card will give you the UK EPG with all the channels more accessible e.g. BBC1 is at channel 101, etc. You don't need to access 'Other Channels' so it will be alot easier to use.

I got one off this guy:
