Why are the 1c, 2c, 5c coins and €5 notes made so small/awkward for machines?

I mean seriously, a very new currency like the Euro and they still make it neigh on impossible for one to use coppers to pay for anything.

Even the fivers from ATM lark, why were they not made manageable for same machines. Manys a day i had only €9.99 in the bank in college and couldnt get me fiver for lunch. And there was no cash office in this particular branch

We've been using it for 10 years. What's new about it?

All great solutions - my question though is why were they made so bloody awkward in the first place?

I use all my change in the self-service checkouts at tesco. It takes all coins, and i do it slowly, making sure to get every last copper coin in the machine. People must love watching it because by the time i'm done there's a crowd of people standing in a line looking at me.

Seriously there's no excuse for copper coins in this day and age. Just round off things to the nearest zero

Coins are small so the metal used doesn't become more valuable than the value of the coin? I have that somewhere in my head ungoogled so could be totally wrong.

    Notes? Shite design.

1c and 2c coins are pointless and should be gotten rid of. Set a cut-off date and let people change them to larger coins/notes and we are all happier bar maybe charities who leave boxes by tills.

You can't get rid of them. Just be happy they don't make us use decimal point currency.

It's better that inflation can go up by 1c rather than just 5c.

The shops need to quit the idiot .99 pricing. Anyone who's fooled by it deserves to be ripped off, and it's just annoying for the rest of us.
