Fas/Money question

I'm on JSA for about 3 months now, I did my leaving last year and decided to take a year out.
I cannot get a job anywhere. I've applied to everything I can think of but no luck!!

I've decided I'm better off doing a Fas course and getting some kind of qualification (even if it's not very good) and just do it so I don't lose my mind.

Am I entitled to extra money if I do a full-time 16 week (or more) course or will I be getting the same amount as I am now?
I'm currently on E90pw and where I live(10 miles from anything and do not drive) I'm limited as to where I can work. It simply sucks.

If you are 18 or over, you would be entitled to the full €188 for the duration of a full time Fas course. Payments for younger age groups set out here:

    Course Participant Training Allowances
    Effective: 01 January 2012

    Age Group Full-time € Part-time €
    Course Participant Aged 16 - 17 years * 40.00 23.00
Course Participant Aged 18 Years and Over 188.00 108.20
Course Participant Aged 16 Years (In receipt of Disability Allowance) 76.65 44.10
Course Participant Aged 17 Years (In receipt of Disability Allowance) 95.75 55.10
    * These rates apply to new entrants only from 1 January 2012 excluding those in receipt of Disability Allowance.would get the €188.00 for the duration of a full time Fas course.

And details here re Travel Allowance http://www.fas.ie/en/Allowances+and+Grants/Travel+Allowances.htm
and Accommodation and Meal Allowances http://www.fas.ie/en/Allowances+and+Grants/Accommodation+and+Meal+Allowances.htm though, do note that it's either a Travel Allowance or an Accommodation allowance.

it may be worth it for the extra money, but definitely talk to people who have done whatever FAS course you are interested in and see how they felt about it and whether they have applied.

FAS is changing, and it is sorely needed as the FAS trainees are now more likely to be qualified ppl made redundant and it is geared towards ppl with a low standard of education i felt. i hated going there because you were treated like a child and there was a LOT of time wasted. having to do manual handling training for a day when doing a computer course where you did no lifting of anything heavier than a book, being given crossword puzzles every day, having a whole week of CV/interview advice from a useless woman with outdated handouts with advice like 'don't smoke in the interview unless invited to do so.' and 'shower before the interview and wear deoderant', be funny if it wasn't so insulting. course was taught so slow to stretch out the days and weeks.

no one in my course has gotten a job out of it months later. the general consensus from ppl i know who have gone there is that it provides jobs for the people running the centres, doing the training, not the trainees. a few young lads already knew the course material they did eff all but go online, they just did it for the extra money.

fyi: went to a college graduation recently, all the grads from custodial studies (prison officers) and quantity surveying, had their degrees awarded in absentia, as they were away working in other countries. i have no interest in those fields but seems to be jobs there.

I AM DOING A WELDING AND FABRICATION COURSE AT PRESENT IN THE NORTH EAST AREA.I WAS VERY UP BEAT IN THE BEGINING.I AM NOW 8 WKS IN AND IT REALLY IS A JOKE.OUR WELDING EXAMS ARE IN 16 WEEKS MIG/ARC /GAS AND THESE ARE IMPORTANT YET WE HAVEN`T EVEN GOT CLOSE TO THE STANDARD REQUIRED.WE HAVE A HUGE AMOUNT TO COVER ON THE COURSE MORE THAN JUST WELDING.I SPOKE TO SOME OF THE LADS WHO ARE REALLY KEEN TO LEARN AND THEY FEEL THE SAME AS ME.IT SEEMS YOU GET TRAINED ON A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING BUT DON`T REACH A GOOD STANDARD ON ANYTHING.NOBODY GOT A JOB FROM THE LAST COURSE THAT FINISHED IN DEC.THE INSTRUCTOR IS A CAPABLE TRAINER BUT THE COURSE IS SO LAID BACK.
HAS ANYBODY BEEN ON A SIMILIAR COURSE AND WHAT WAS THEIR IMPRESSION ON THE TRAINING AND CONTENTS.
THIS COURSE COSTS THE FAS/TAXPAYER €9500 PER PERSON AND 14 PEOPLE TRAINING OVER 30 WEEKS THIS IS BIG MONEY.IT DOESN`T SEEM TO DELIVER.
    ANY THOUGHTS OR EXPERIENCES ETC.
