    Okay so here's what I think :

The apocalypse causes The big bang,
    Big bang creates universe

Universe gets stretched until the apocalypse happens.
Once apocalypse happens it creates the Big Bang

    Time is looped

Nope. The universe expands and then just dies. Everything dies eventually.

Wasn't there an episode of Red Dwarf where they found themselves in an alternative universe where the big bang was reversed and everyone went backwards in time.

I do remember the final scene where the cat went for a dump without realising what that meant.

Sheesh, they only come out at night

Irish stoners and acid freaks are very respectful of the 4.20 rule. It takes seven hours of solid baking to get to this stage.

Give him another hour and he'll make it to 'Are we all just figments of a multiversal creature's imagination?' and maybe a further 20 or 30 minutes until it's 'this is just a virtual reality game being played on us and only one of us is real, but which one???'

What you're describing is known as the Big Rip (Joke about Mary Harney or something here), only minus the Groundhog Day elements (Comment about bankers here).

Yep - familiar with the big rip hence mentioned in my OP.
What happens if you stretch the $hite out of a baloon. ?

it will explode in yer face.

what happens when you stretch the universe ?
it will explode creating a universal explosion whcih starts off the Big Bang and time is looped.

Yes, but a balloon doesn't magically come back as another or cause nearby balloons to burst by grieving the loss of one of their own. It's destroyed.

well we have gravity on earth, no gravity in space.
If it exploded in space it could come back together due to mass / gravity of the baloon pieces.

Just look at how planets were formed from comets sticking together.

Here is a link : ( scroll down until Circle of life and death )

    http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2012-01-02/faith-and-ritual/30581106_1_doomsday-life-and-death-big-bang

    Quote :

    Circle of life and death
There could be another reason, based on the genetic instinct which reaffirms the inevitable circle of life and death, of destruction and regeneration. In Indic philosophy, the cosmos goes through cycles in which it is eternally created and destroyed. This concept is reflected in the scientific theory of the oscillating universe, according to which the universe was created by the Big Bang and will continue to expand till gravitational forces pull it back together to a 'singularity which once again will explode in another Big Bang, ad infinitum.

Subsequent studies have suggested that the oscillating universe theory could be flawed as there doesn't seem to be enough cosmic mass to coalesce once again into a singularity and that the universe is fated to expand till the end of space and time. However, this does not rule out the cyclical cosmic theory working on the micro, or molecular level.

^^ I know this contradicts what my OP says but everything is built at the molecular level, even the largest stars out there.

funny this notion popped into my head the other day, the big bang is the ending which is the new beginning, how many times has it happened, they don't know what caused the big bang so this can not be ruled out,

it could bring some sense to the chaos of string theory, not so much universe upon universe, just big bang fallout on top of big bang new life.

but i think the rate of the universe expanding is actually accelerating. (this is why the sky is dark at night. otherwise the 'night' sky would be all lit up.) so how can something be dying if the rate of expansion is speeding up, rather than slowing down?

may have this wrong though. have a tendency to make stuff up sometimes.

By apocalypse you mean the end of the universe or just earth? the latter would be very silly.

Isn't a cosmological theory without corroborating mathematics kind of like a robot without any circuits and wires and sh1t inside it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,900 ✭✭✭General General

Indic philosophy. Pfff. On my home planet, there is a tribe that calls what you call the Universe 'an Accident waiting to happen', yet another that sees this Universe as the interior of an organism of giant proportions that will one day get eaten by an even bigger one... & so on.

Expanding universe=light and energy becomes more diluted or spread out=maximum entropy.

Will end up with a situation where even subatomic partices are torn apart as the universe expands ever faster

OK, I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to this stuff, but if an apocalypse caused the big band, which created the universe, what was the apocalypse of in the first place?

Or are you saying their was once a universe -> apocalypse -> big bang and around and around we go...

handy that earth likes to hang out with the sun otherwise where would we be?

would all the peices of it have to come back together on earth seeing as earth is the only gravitational pull in the known universe? any ideas when this is going to happen?

If the number of times the universe contracts and expands is infinite then the odds of any imaginable scenario happening is.............100%

Anything you can imagine. Seems illogical so I don`t tend to go for the infinitely expanding contracting universe. But who knows.

    One to ponder

There is the theory of the Moebius, a twist in the fabric of space where time becomes a loop. Loop where time becomes a. A loop where time becomes. Becomes a loop where time. Time becomes a loop where. Where time becomes a loop.

Im almost sure we know very very little about what goes on in the universe.Hell its that big we will never know.
