Ok here's the story. Was changing the battery today and came across these: 1-what looks like a sensor (paragon written on the side) not connected and 2- a corrugated pipe again not connected. Car is running fine, just wondering what these are?

That is the sensor for the automatic recirculation function. It should be attached to a microfilter (cabin filter) housing.

    Here is a BMW version:

Presumably there was once a housing around that pollen filter that the sensor would have fitted into?

    1. Air quality sensor (for air con)
    2. Vent pipe for battery

Thanks anan. Presumably there was. Don't service it myself so must have been ...ahem...'lost' while being serviced.

Thanks George. Both ok like that? Not ideal I know but not fatal?

Plug the battery pipe in to the little hole in the side of the battery (top middle).

The AUC sensor isn't critical, the only thing I'd be worried about is the quality of air you're breathing in the car without a housing for the Microfilter. Basically you are breathing the air that is coming from the engine bay , I wouldn't be comfortable with that set up. You're breathing carbon monoxide potentially. Is the car a bit smelly on the inside? Is the windscreen getting dirty quite quickly?

Thanks again rebel. Will do that. Car isn't smelly that I've noticed anyway and I don't see the windscreen getting dirty either. Anyway will get onto the local scrapyard and try and pick up a housing. Makes sense. Thanks again
