My wife and I are flying to Japan, with Emirates. There is a 3-hour stopover in Dubai Airport. Obviously, dutyfree, gifts, etc can be bought with a credit card, but what about small purchases such as coffees, snacks, etc. ? Does one need the local cash (the Dirhan) ?

In the airport, you can use your credit card for everything, no minimum limit :) enjoy

I am also transiting through Dubai next week and I understand that that the Euro is accepted albeit at disadvantageous rates, last year I was able to buy a cup of coffee in Abu Dhabi Airport and pay with Euro coins.

I remember using a card at McDonalds there. It's a very international and modern airport so there's no need to go changing money really.

You'd better be careful what you step on

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7234786.stm
British tourist Keith Brown was sentenced to four years in prison after Dubai customs officers found a 0.003g trace of cannabis stuck to his shoe.

Possession of painkillers like codeine and some cold and flu medication could result in a mandatory four-year prison sentence, Fair Trials International said.

In one of the most extreme cases, it reported a man being held after poppy seeds from a bread roll were found on his clothes.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

Not exactly relevant to anyone who is in transit!
