Laptop keeps freezing

Hi, I have a Laptop that was hit with a virus and was in bad shape. I managed to rid the Laptop of the virus. I'm running MS Security essentials and Malwarebytes and all scans in safe mode are now coming up clean. I also ran a windows repair but the Laptop will freeze after about 5 minutes once logged on. If I start the Laptop in Safe mode, it runs fine but when it boots up normally it freezes. Is there a way to find out what is causing it to freeze? I also noticed that before it freezes the screen flickers a lot, could it be video card/driver related? It's running Windows XP and I've updated all the drivers/patches but the problem still exists. Is there a program I can run to find out why it is freezing? Let me know if you need any additional information. Any help is greatly appreciated!

if it was me, i'd probably be thinking of backing up data and doing a clean install of windows at this stage.

you could try opening the task manager and keeping an eye on what processes are running before it crashes.

yes, if the screen is flickering before it freezes, it is possibly related to the video card/driver. then again, any problems with the video card/driver might be a symptom rather than the cause of your problem
