Swimming with a weak Lower Back

    Hi,

I have just gotten back into swimming and loving it but my back is playing up.

It's a weak lumber spine from a previous injury. Does anyone know any exercises specific to the core muscles of the lower back that I can do when in the pool or out of it.

It really shot pain at me today, especially as I stretched forward for front crawl, I have a physio but thinking of changing.

I have weak ankles also and do this little exercises while in Qs or waiting for the kettle to boil, something like that, iykwim.

It looks to me that the issue is not entirely related to the lumbar spine in isolation - your lats are probably tight, combined with weak core muscles. Your ankles will naturally develop if kicking correctly (flutter kick)

    Hope this helps?

Do the dolphin kick on your back, it stretches it out and builds muscle on to it as well.
